Hillsboro Cemetery

Columbarium

The new columbarium completed in August 2022 consists of two identical wall installations, each wall containing 64 niches, with 32 niches facing northward and 32 niches facing southward [i.e., back to back]. The walls are located on either side of the small building in the center of the cemetery, and are finished with local stone in keeping with the extensive stone work in and around the village of Hillsboro.

The columbarium walls sit on concrete foundations.  Each niche is approximately 12”x12”x12” in size, and has a Barre gray granite facing stone, which may be etched at the owners’ expense with the names and dates of the deceased whose cremains are contained inside the niche.  The niches were fabricated by Eickhof Columbarium in its facility in Crookston, Minnesota, using its proprietary designs, hardware, and locking devices.

Each niche face is secured by a proprietary key-lock mechanism controlled by the cemetery board’s representative.  Each niche can accommodate up to two (2) cremains [cremated remains] in standard sized urns or other such containers [urns are provided by the owner/funeral home].

The current pricing for a niche is $2,400, which includes the initial opening for placement of cremated remains.  Each subsequent opening will be at a cost of $200 to cover the administrative expenses of the cemetery association.

Niches are available for purchase now, and may be reserved for future use.  Contact the cemetery’s President or Superintendent to arrange a discussion and viewing of our columbarium, and a niche purchase.
